I sure hope so. While it sounds par for the course, Mafia II makes it look awesome. Things got really hairy for Vito when he was rushing from the warehouse with an injured crew member in the backseat and John Law on his tail. Producer Denby Grace noted that while driving in the snow looked easy it most certainly wasn't. The car Vito had to drive to the mark's location was warm so there wasn't any snow on it, but traffic cars had varying amounts of snow on them and steam poured out of exhaust pipes and street drains. The mission demoed took place in the winter in Empire Bay, and the city actually felt cold. So much so that when one of them ended up getting shot by the hit target (by way of a cutscene), I was actually concerned how they would make it out of the mission. By the end of the demo, I had a good idea of who (mostly) disembodied voices belonged to and a feel for their personality. Where GTA IV had brief moments of buddy dialogue, Mafia II has it in spades. The scripted dialogue was miles ahead of random epithets spouted by any of the personality devoid thugs from The Godfather The Game part 2, and added to the experience-not detracted from it. The entire length of the demo Vito and his two man crew were talking to each other, and not just spouting random drivel either. You can guess how this turns out so I won't bore you with the full story details but instead highlight some of the coolest and most noteworthy parts of the demo. The demo mission shown had protagonist Vito tasked with offing a guy making whiskey on Family turf without permission. Impressions and something completely different after the break. ![]()
